Exit Director, Philip Nitschke, has a long history in the political arena. He has stood as an Independent and as a Green, at both state and Federal levels in Australian elections.
In 2007, Dr Nitschke returned to the Melbourne seat of Menzies where he stood as an independent against the sitting Member - the then Minister for Immigration, Hon. Kevin Andrews.
Philip first stood as an Independent in Menzies in 1998 when he gained around 10% of the primary vote.
The reason for standing in Menzies is because it was the Kevin Andrews Private Member's Bill that led to the overturning in 1997 of the Northern Territory's Rights of the Terminally Ill Act.
A staunch Catholic and member of the secretive Lyons Forum of the Liberal Party, Minister Andrews worked tirelessly to ride rough-shod over the rights of the people of the Northern Territory.
Philip's aim in standing against Kevin Andrews is always to remind the voters of Menzies of the actions of their Member of Parliament. In 2007, Philip raised over $100,000 in donations which was used to fund the campaign and gained almost 4% of the primary vote.
