Dr Philip Nitschke on BBC Hardtalk
BBC Hardtalk, with Zeinab Badawi
Watch Dr Philip Nitschke on BBC Hardtalk with Zeinab Badawi as he argues that a good death is the fundamental human right of all rational adults, not only the terminally ill.
“If we’re going to acknowledge the right to life, we’ve got to be able to recognise the right to dispose of that gift. And that’s a right to death,” he tells HARDtalk.
It is of no surprise that in 2021, this argument still has huge currency.
In early 2021 the Dutch group,Cooperation Last Will initiated court action to prosecute the Dutch state for refusing to abide by the European Convention on Human Rights.
CLW argue that there is no role for doctors or the State in rational older people’s end of life decision-making.
Similarly, when Philip Nitschke was interviewed ahead of the opening of the ‘Suizid Lets Talk About it‘ exhibition featuring the Sarco euthanasia capsule at the Museum of Sepalchral Culture in Kassel Germany, his answer was the same.
This episode of Dr Philip Nitschke on BBC Hardtalk first screened: 27 April 2015 Last updated at 18:01 BST (24 minutes).
